Girl’s Senior Style Guide

This style guide includes my recommendations and suggestions for clothing, shoes, accessories, hair, and makeup for your session. These are just ideas that I have seen complement pictures. Ihope that you will consider these suggestions, as you have made an investment and I want to guide you in every way possible to ensure you love the photographs we create. With that being said, these of course are just suggestions. At the end of the day I want your photographs to represent who you are. So if that means you wear something that is totally different than my suggestions, that is totally okay.

Let’s start with the don’ts

c o l o r s

Avoid neon and clashing colors

avoid distracting patterns

Shoes that are not recommended

During our session, we will be outdoors. We will be walking and moving a lot. Please don’t wear flip flips as they are hard to walk in. High heels never usually work out because they will start to sink into the dirt, if you are wanting to add a little bit of height then you can wear a shoe with a wedge. And finally, crocs and athletic shoes are super comfy and awesome for everyday wear, but not the most stylish shoe out there for your photoshoot so let’s leave those bad boys at home.

No large logos on clothing

We want to keep your pictures timeless. If you have an obvious logo it is going to date the pictures and be distracting.

Now for the dos

C o l o r s

For colors think of neural tones, deep colors, and earth tones. Think of colors that we see around our beautiful earth; the colors of the water, trees, and leaves. It is important to wear colors that are going to fit with our environment and allow the focus to remain on your family without becoming distracting.

Here are some examples:

Patterns

It is best to stick with only one obvious pattern per family.

For example, if mom has a floral dress, then the daughter shouldn’t have polka dot and the dad a striped shirt. It is totally okay for some of the family members to not be wearing any patterns. Simplicity is usually always best.

I always recommend that you start with finding a clothing piece that you absolutely love and can’t go without. You can also shop for the hardest person first. A lot of people will shop for mom first.

Women’s clothing suggestions

Ladies! I want to make sure that you love the way you look in your photographs. When choosing your clothing I have one important rule: movement. Whether you wear a dress, skirt, or pants/blouse outfi, choose clothing that you can easily move in and that will flow as you move. Long dresses are usually the best option for this. Or a long flowy skirt. And if you choose a pants and blouse outfit, choose a shirt/blouse with a little bit of flowy- ness to it. Generally, you are going to want to stay away from clothing that is too tight fitting.

Assosories

Accessories such as jewelry, are fine for the photoshoot. Just keep it simple and make sure that they won’t become a distraction or get in the way when moving.

Hair suggestions

Just like everything else, we want to have our hair move with us

and with the wind. So keeping hair down is usually a good option.

Make-Up suggestions

You are going to want to wear a tad bit more makeup then you normally would wear on a daily basis. Keep it natural, bright turquoise or pink eye shadow will be distracting. Applying at least a little mascara is always a good idea in my opinion, it helps your eyes stand out a bit more.
